• SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE NEWS •

The Social Action Committee received a “Peace Package” from the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee describing the “Where is the Rage? Project, a national educational outreach effort to share literature, films and music to stir and intensify opposition to the war in Iraq.

The project is sponsored by Veterans for Peace and several other organizations, including the Unitarian Universalist Association. The centerpiece of the Project is the CD, “Where is
the Rage?” written and sung by Pat Scanlon, a Unitarian Universalist and Vietnam veteran. Pat has donated the CD, with its two very moving and meaningful anti-war songs, to this Project to help end the war in Iraq.

The Peace Package was sent to over 1,800 peace organizations, 1,000 UUA congregations and over 500 college and public radio stations. In particular, the Project is reaching out to churches to bring a strong voice for peace to the pulpit and church communities. The Social Action Committee of People’s Church has committed to supporting the “Where is the Rage?”
Project. We envision a variety of events and activities, especially during the month of October.

Peace Vespers will resume on the fourth Wednesday of each month beginning September 26.

The larger community will be invited to attend the Peace Vespers and to join in peace-making activities. As Rev. William G. Sinkford said in an open letter to members of the U.S. Congress, “These concerns are neither Republican nor Democratic. They transcend partisan differences. They are moral concerns that affect all of us.” It is imperative we do our moral duty and make our voices heard. Further information about “Where is the Rage?” Project activities will be included in the inserts for the Sunday Order of Service in coming weeks.
Members of the Social Action Committee welcome your questions or concerns, as well as your suggestions for activities. (Julia Chambers, Ed Dennison, Ken Fisher, Cathy Harrington, Carmine Killey, David Nixon, Priscilla Tait, Brenda or George Reeber, or Carol or Dave Rodwell)

We look forward to your ideas and participation!

• Community Table •

Community Table is an outreach ministry for our local citizens. Area churches have come together and volunteered to provide a warm homemade meal for anyone who chooses to come and eat. Each Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM all are welcome to come and enjoy dinner. The meals are free and are prepared in the large commercial kitchen of the United Methodist Church and served in their spacious fellowship hall in downtown Ludington at 107 S. Harrison Street.

Church members interested in volunteering their time and talent to help with cooking, serving or clean-up should contact Teresa Hillman for details.
